Museum
of the Novodevichy
Convent

A convent that has absorbed the history of the country.

TOGETHER LET'S REVIVE THE ANCIENT TEMPLE!

31.10.2025

On October 17, 2025, with the blessing of His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus', a metochion of the Novodevichy Stavropegic Convent in Moscow was established at the Church of the Nativity of Christ in the village of Vekhruchey, Prionezhsky District, Republic of Karelia.

The Church of the Nativity of Christ, built between 1913 and 1915, was severely damaged during the Great Patriotic War and is in need of restoration. The church is one of the few surviving stone churches built in the Republic of Karelia. It is located on the federal highway running along Lake Onega, 70 km from Petrozavodsk. The Great Russian Northern Route, a pilgrimage and historical-cultural route, passes through it.

The 800th anniversary of the baptism of the Karelians will be celebrated in 2027. By the anniversary year, the church will become an Orthodox spiritual center and a focal point for all who make the pilgrimage along the ancient route.

Dear brothers and sisters! We ask you to contribute to the restoration of the Church of the Nativity of Christ.

You can donate to the church by transferring funds to the Novodevichy Convent bank account

40703810838720001188.

You can also donate cash by visiting the Novodevichy Convent and leaving a note with the names of the donors. The restoration of the unique Church of the Nativity of Christ will be our common cause!
